LVT-(A)5 by Stew Langenbeck

Last month we featured in-progress shots of Stew's LVT-(A)5.  Here's the finished project. Stew converted the Italeri kit of the LVT-(A)4 to a late-war A-5 by adding exterior detail parts and the driver's compartment from the AFV Club A-4 and a turret from the Tamiya M8 kit. The central interior of the model, which includes the gyro stabilizer and power traverse system, was scratch built.

Several figure sets were reconfigured to get the hot weather poses he envisioned. The model was painted with Model Master olive drab and brushed with Tamiya dark yellow acrylic. As a retired high school art teacher, Stew makes use of materials most modelers might not have in their arsenal...he weathered the vehicle with powered tempera paint, crayola water colors, and garden soil. The base is scratch built using Scene-A-Rama and sand with matte Mod Podge for the water.
