DAK Panzer 1A by Stew Langenbeck

Stew's build of an Afrika Korps Panzer 1A combined Tristar's Pz. 1A Early and 1A Early/Late (with interior) kits and Modelkasten tracks. Neither of the Tristar kits had turret weld seams or vision port detail so Dragon pieces were used to enhance those details.  Stew expressed regret that he didn't purchase the Dragon kit before getting well along in the project since he found the Modelkasten tracks very frustrating to work with. The rubber band tracks in the Dragon kit would have greatly simplified the build. Photoetch from Voyager was used in addition to the PE that came with the kits.

A generic desert camo color was mixed and roughly applied over a base of Tamiya German grey. Filters, pin washes, and sand and dust weathering completed the build.

 

Panzer 1A (DAK) by Stew Langenbeck

This build combines the Tristar Panzer 1A Early with ModelKasten tracks and Tristar's Early/Late boxing that contained an interior. Neither kit had turret weld seams or vision port detail so pieces from a Dragon kit were used to fill those gaps.  Stew was sorry he didn't begin with the Dragon kit from the beginning since he couldn't deal with the ModelKasten tracks and the rubber band tracks in the Dragon kit would have sufficed. 

Voyager and the Tristar kit photoetch parts were used.

A generic desert camo color was mixed and roughly hand painted over Tamiya German Grey followed by filters, pin washes, and sand and dust weathering...and Stew thinks he'll never again be sorry to see rubber band tracks after dealing with the tiny Modelkasten independent link tracks.

Panzerjager 1 by Dave Blankenship

This is the Italeri (reboxed Alan) 1/35th scale kit in DAK markings.  It was built pretty much out-of-the-box...the main additions were the installation of radio gear in the gun compartment, extra stowage, and sandbags fashioned from Apoxie Sculpt. It was painted with Tamiya and Vallejo Model Air acrylics and weathered with AK washes and filters.  The sign barrel is scratch built; the base is from Monroe Perdu.
