Chan has nothing but good things to say about the 1:35 Asuka/Tasca Sherman III kit. It comes with lots of extra parts and goes together extremely well. He painted the model with Tamiya paints using Mike Starmer's mixing formula (scroll down a way for article on the formulas) for light Portland stone.
